Libertarian Party of New York Platform Committee

The Libertarian Party of New York's Platform Committee is tasked with reviewing and recommending amendments to the party platform. The committee has existed in various forms over the history of the party.

History

A Platform Committee was first started on December 1, 1972. There was also a Platform Committee that exisited from 1982 to 1983. Attempts were made to amend the 1983 platform in the late 2010s. A Platform Committee chaired by Jeff Motta led to the creation of a new platform in 2019.

1st Iteration (1972—1973)

The first iteration was established on December 1, 1972. The committee came up with two proposals for the 1973 convention, but no platform was adopted.

2nd Iteration (1976—1977)

The second iteration of the Platform Committee was created by the State Committee on November 14, 1976 for the purpose of presenting a platform committee report for the 1977 convention. A committee of five was appointed, with the ability to add members.

3rd Iteration (1982—1983)

The third iteration of the committee was established in 1982 and created a platform in 1983.

4th Iteration (2010s)

The fourth iteration existed in the late 2010s. Rosenbeck and Purtell were not formally named chairs of the Platform committee, but were presumed chairs.

5th Iteration (2019)

It is unknown if there were any iterations of the platform since the adoption of the 1983 platform, which was never amended after that.

The fifth interation was established on July 17, 2019 and was chaired by Jeff Motta. A series of meetings led to the creation of a platform, primarily written by Fred Cole. The committee was dissolved on September 29, 2019.

The seventh iteration of the committee was chaired by Mark Glogowski. The committee met and a report was presented to the State Committee, but no amendments to the platform were adopted. All members of the committee removed except the Platform Committee Chair, Mark Glogowki, and State Chair, Andrew Kolstee.
