The Libertarian Party of San Francisco is a county organization of the Libertarian Party of California. The city and county of San Francisco are contiguous, with a unified government, so unlike the other county parties in California, the LPSF is directly concerned with a single municipality.
Meetings
- The LPSF meets the 2nd Saturday each month, 3-5pm (currently as of December 2022 meeting at main SF library, corner of Grove and Larkin streets, by Civic Center BART station, 3rd floor Paley conference room). This schedule and location have been used since the late 2010s?
Activism
The LPSF filed several ballot arguments against local measures in the November 2024 election: • Proposition A (school bonds) • Proposition K (closing the Great Highway) • Proposition H (firefighter pensions) • Proposition I (nurses and 911 operator pensions)
The arguments (limit 300 words) against Propositions H and I won the lottery held by the San Francisco Elections Department, and were published in the Voter Handbook mailed to hundreds of thousands of registered San Francisco voters. As the official opponent of these measures, the LPSF also got to submit rebuttals (limit 250 words) to the proponents arguments in support of Propositions H and I. [1]
Some of the main activities of the LPSF circa 2018 include:
- Filing ballot arguments each year to be published in the San Francisco Voter Handbook distributed each election to several hundred thousand registered San Francisco voters (some free arguments selected as official ballot arguments by lottery, others paid arguments typically costing several hundred dollars each, based on the number of words).
- Operating an outreach booth for two days at San Francisco Pride festival each year
- Issuing voting recommendations on local ballot measures
- Leaders speaking at local schools
- Hosting an annual panel discussion event (started out as a Tax Day event)
- Periodically running candidates for local office
- Publishing commentary on LPSF.org, principally about local political issues
