Craig Strachan was a delegate for California at the Libertarian Party National Convention in 2022. In his youth, he was affiliated with the youth and student wings of the UK Conservative Party. He was drawn to libertarianism at a very young age: When visiting a whisky distillery in Scotland at the age of 12 and noticing the still was padlocked by Her Majesty’s Customs and Revenue so the government could monitor and measure every drop produced and collect tax.

He first registered to vote Libertarian in 2000 at age 32 after naturalizing, and joined the Libertarian Party on July 21st of the same year. Craig was drawn into the party through Harry Browne's Presidential candidacy.

He has been influenced by a number of books: The Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith, The Law by Frederic Bastiat, Civil Disobedience by Henry David Thoreau, Nation, State and Economy and Human Action by Ludwig von Mises, The Road to Serfdom by Frederick Hayek and Economics in One Lesson by Henry Hazlitt . He is passionate about Economic opportunity, real money, medical freedom, self-ownership, and peace.

Strachan was a delegate seated with the delegation of the Libertarian Party of California at the 2022 National Convention.

Personal

Craig was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1968 to James and Joyce Strachan. He became a resident of California in 1995 holding dual US/UK citizenship. He is a real estate developer and investor, and currently resides in Thousand Oaks, CA. He is a member of the Writer's Guild of America (West) and Writer's Guild of Great Britain.
