He was elected as the Libertarian Party of Douglas County's Communications Director in 2022. During the 2022 General Election, Darren Hill ran for Douglas County Sheriff on the Libertarian ticket against Darren Weekly (R) and Mike Phibbs (I), where he received nearly 9% of the vote. Hill notably ran for Douglas County Sheriff on the promise that he would not enforce red flag gun laws in Douglas County. In 2023, Darren assumed office in the Trails at Crowfoot Metropolitan District 1, making him one of the Libertarian Party of Douglas County's only elected officials.
