Venue: Century Plaza Hotel (and others)

Alternative '80 was a multi-location event held 28 September 1980, hosted at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles and relayed via satellite to more than 50 locations. Although national conventions had been held every previous year, this was not a convention and conventions were held only every other year from that point on. It was described at the time as a "telethon". "Alternative '80" was also the name given to the Ed Clark/David Koch ticket.

The event included speeches from Ed Crane, Nathaniel Brandon, Dick Randolph (the only elected Libertarian public official at that time), Ed Clark, and David Koch. Singer Tane McClure provided musical entertainment.
