In May 2019, Thomason ran for mayor of Big Spring, TX, in a four-way nonpartisan race without an incumbent. Thomason received 555 votes out of 1,561 total votes (36%), coming in second place and qualifying for a runoff election.
In the runoff election, Thomason received 58% of the votes, winning the office.
Campaigns
In November 2020, there was a recall election for Thomason and for two city council members: Jim DePauw and Camilla Strande. According to news reports, DePauw and Strande were openly opposed to Thomason.
The results were: Thomason survived the recall with 2,508 votes for recall and 3,156 votes against recall (44% for recall). DePauw was recalled (52% for recall) and Strande was recalled (59% for recall).
In May 2022, Thomason ran for re-election in a two-way nonpartisan race where he was the incumbent. Thomason received 348 votes out of 1,818 total votes (19%).
