Nelson Michael Barnhouse (October 2, 1951—April 26, 2024) was an American engineer and political activist. He was a delegate with the delegation of the Libertarian Party of Georgia at the 2018 National Convention.
Biography
Early Life and Education
Nelson Michael Barnhouse was born on October 2, 1951, in Memphis, Tennessee. He attended Wills High School in Smyrna, Georgia, and graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics.
Career
Barnhouse had a successful career in engineering. He worked as a Manufacturing Process Engineer with Firestone Tire & Rubber in Albany, Georgia, and later as a Reliability Engineer at Lockheed Martin in Marietta, Georgia. He was recognized for his dedication and expertise in his field.
Personal Life
Barnhouse was an avid reader, with a keen interest in military history, politics, and science fiction. He also enjoyed attending science fiction conventions. He was an active member of the Libertarian Party of Georgia and served as a delegate to the 2018 National Convention.
Death
Nelson Barnhouse passed away at home in Smyrna, Georgia, on April 26, 2024, at the age of 72. A memorial service was held on May 25, 2024, at Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna, Georgia.
Family
Barnhouse was survived by his sister, Cheryl Salisbury of Fayetteville, North Carolina; brother, William David Barnhouse of Piedmont, South Carolina; nephews Joseph Salisbury and Jason Salisbury of Fayetteville, North Carolina; great-niece Alesha Salisbury Frye; great-great-nephew Konnor Salisbury; and great-nephew Will Salisbury. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson Joseph Barnhouse and Lucille Alton Barnhouse; nephew Steven Russell (Rusty) Salisbury, Jr.; and sister-in-law Elaine Andrew's Barnhouse.
Legacy
In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made to the Atlanta Community Food Bank in Barnhouse's honor.
