Life
American Letter Mail Company
Besides his political philosophy work, Lysander Spooner is known for challenging the monopoly of the United States Post Office by creating the American Letter Mail Company. Post Office rates at the time were high, and although legal challenges by the government eventually put him out of business, the American Letter Mail Company's competition forced prices at the US Post Office down from 5c to 3c prior to its end.
