Dennis Misigoy is a libertarian activist in Florida. He previously ran for US Senate and currently serves as Region 9 Representative for the Libertarian Party of Florida.
Early Life and Education
Born in Miami, Florida, Dennis Misigoy is the youngest son of two immigrant parents. He graduated from Miami Springs Senior High School and later pursued higher education at Florida International University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in computer science in 2003.
Political Career
Misigoy represented the Libertarian Party of Florida (LPF) as the Region 9 Representative. He ran for election to the U.S. Senate to represent Florida in the general election held on November 8, 2022. However, with a total of 32,177 votes (0.4%), he lost to Marco Rubio.
Some of his core campaign messages included:
- The only legitimate function of government is to uphold and defend individual rights to life, liberty, and property.
- Respect for individual liberty is the path to peace and prosperity both domestically and internationally.
- Addressing the increasing national debt, inflation, and foreign policy challenges.
Political Views
Misigoy draws inspiration from Congressman Ron Paul, praising his principled and consistent approach throughout his congressional career. Misigoy's political philosophy is deeply influenced by Frederic Bastiat's "The Law." He emphasizes the importance of commitment to correct principles, respect for individual rights, and adherence to the U.S. Constitution for any elected official.
Among the key policy areas that Misigoy is passionate about include:
- Foreign Policy: Advocating for peace and cooperation rather than wars and interventions.
- Spending: Highlighting the importance of cutting spending alongside tax cuts.
- Monetary Policy: Criticizing the Federal Reserve's role and calling for a more stable dollar value.
- Drug War: Advocating for ending the prohibition of certain substances.
Misigoy also expresses concern over the two-party establishment, viewing it as a significant threat to the nation's future. He is skeptical about the efficacy of term limits and emphasizes the importance of the Senate's unique role within the U.S. legislative system.
Misigoy supports free trade with all nations, advocates for repealing the Jones Act, and opposes wage control laws. He expresses concern about federal agencies targeting marginalized communities and believes agencies like the Department of Homeland Security, ICE, and the TSA should be abolished.
Second Amendment
Misigoy firmly supports the Second Amendment as a fundamental human right, ensuring individuals have the means for self-defense against both immediate threats and tyrannical governments.
Abortion
Termination of pregnancy should not be restricted during the first trimester, but should be restricted by the third trimester and limited to specific exceptions such as medical issues threatening the life of the mother. However, this issue is not regarded as a federal matter.
Budget
Opposed to expanding federal funding for social safety net programs such as Social Security and Medicare. Spending needs to be cut to balance the budget, and the tax code's instability and misallocation of capital to serve politicians' unproductive agendas need to be considered.
Campaign Finance
Misigoy supports the freedom of individuals and organizations to spend their legally acquired resources as they see fit, including contributing to campaigns.
The Constitution
Misigoy believes many national problems arise from disregarding the Constitution's limits on government power.
COVID-19 Response
Misigoy criticizes government overreach during the COVID-19 pandemic, including lockdowns and vaccine mandates.
Crime
Misigoy is opposed to protecting government officials, including law enforcement officers, from personal liability in civil lawsuits concerning alleged misconduct. Believes qualified immunity and similar protections must be ended.
The Drug War
Misigoy compares the drug war to the prohibition era, highlighting its failure to reduce drug abuse and its detrimental societal impacts.
Transparency & Accountability
Misigoy believes the lack of transparency in government operations is a barrier to informed voting and hinders public accountability.
Career
Misigoy's professional background spans both the field of education and the tech industry. He served as a public high school teacher for four years before transitioning into software development.
Misigoy is a leader in software development, showcasing an almost superhuman aptitude for solution design and data analysis. His strengths are enhanced by exceptional communication skills and an unyielding commitment to delivering perfect products on time. He is adept at utilizing team resources optimally. His experience spans the development of mission-critical services using C# and spearheading the transformation and migration of vast amounts of sensitive data into a common SQL Server platform. Dennis works both independently and as a team leader.
Personal Life
