Bernhard "Bernie" Behrens (May 9, 1963 – September 4, 2022) was an influential member of the Libertarian Party of Illinois and a respected entrepreneur and activist in the automotive restoration industry. He served as Treasurer for the Winnebago County Chapter and Chair for the Stephenson County Chapter of the Illinois Libertarian Party, contributing significantly to libertarian activism and political organizing in Illinois.
Career
Behrens was the Principal Owner of The Original International Classics, Inc., a company based in Skokie, Illinois, specializing in the complete sports and collector car service & restoration. Founded in November 1979, Behrens ran the company until June 2005, after which he served as the General Manager Operations for International Classics, LLC until March 2010. His passion for vehicles extended into his role as Vice President of the Illinois Historic Vehicle Preservation Association, a 501(c)3 organization he co-founded. This organization is dedicated to providing supplemental vocational training to high school-aged individuals interested in automotive careers, especially those not bound for college, through a 1-on-1 mentoring environment.
Political Activism
Beyond his professional endeavors, Behrens was deeply involved in the Libertarian Party, serving in leadership roles within local chapters. His work included organizing events, managing finances, and advocating for libertarian principles at both the Winnebago County Chapter and the Stephenson County Chapter.
Death
