Michael Moriarty is a film and television actor best known for his portrayal of Ben Stone on the first four seasons of the television show Law & Order.

In 1994, Moriarty spoke before the August 20-21 meeting of the Libertarian National Committee on the possibility of running for president in 1996.[1]

In his 1997 book, The Gift of Stern Angels, Moriarty wrote: ""I get home and, lo and behold, there's a check from the Libertarian Party to Evergrowth for my August 21st speaking engagement and news about a possible speaking engagement on the 19th. I'm off to deposit the $1,000 now. It will cover the rest of the week's expenses for my band at The Ballroom."[2]

Moriarty wrote of speaking before the LNC: "Well, what a piece of perfection my visit to the Libertarian Party's National Committee was!! It started with a standing ovation and ended with two. One for the speech and one for the Q and A session. There were only about forty people in the room but, damn, it was sweet! Their laughter came from such a deep and personal place. The nods of their heads in agreement came from blood they'd shed personally in this growing assault on their freedoms and their simple, common sense."[2]
