Flynn worked at Metro Kader Realty Inc. until January 1992. He later posed as the owner of his former employer by calling the Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. and request that the power be turned off and was arraigned in court in November 1993. Since 1992, he has worked as a realtor/appraiser for Erie Relocation Realty. He was Commissioner of the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority from 1998 to 2008.

Flynn was involved in politics as early as the 1980s. In 1985, he ran for mayor of Buffalo for the Conservative Party primary, but lost to incumbent Mayor Griffin.[1]

Flynn was Chair of the Erie County Independence Party as of 2001.[2] In 2005, he ran for Mayor of Buffalo as the Independence Party candidate, and received 4% of the vote.[3]

Flynn started working to reestablish the Niagara County affiliate of the Libertarian Party in late 2018, and was successful when a convention was held in April 2019.[4]
