COLUMBIA COUNTY LIBERTARIAN PARTY HOLDS CONVENTION AND FORMS INTERIM COUNTY ORGANIZATION

Ghent, NY, December 4, 2019 — The Columbia County Libertarian Party (CCLP) held a convention on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Kozel’s Restaurant in Ghent. Pursuant to LPNY rules, nine (9) enrolled Libertarians registered to vote in Columbia County gathered to accept the proposed rules, elect officers and at-large members, and to conduct other business as necessary. Pending approval by the Libertarian Party of New York (LPNY) Interim State Committee (ISC), these actions allowed the formation of the CCLP Interim County Organization (ICO). Columbia County Libertarians will be able to vote for the first time in New York’s primary elections, to be held on April 28, 2020, to directly select members of the permanent county organization and delegates to the LPNY committee.

Founded in 1971, The Libertarian Party (LP) is your representative in American politics. It is the only political organization which respects you as a unique and responsible individual, rising above the fatigue of today’s polarized finger-pointing national politics. Libertarians strongly oppose any government interference into their personal, family, and business decisions. We believe all Americans should be free to live their lives and pursue their interests as they see fit, as long as they do no harm to another.

Larry Sharpe’s strong showing in the November 2018 gubernatorial election won the LP statewide ballot access. This is a significant accomplishment, as it reflects both the growing alienation of upstate voters by the downstate Democratic agenda, as well as growing frustration with a weak and disorganized state Republican Party. LPNY has placed a high priority on forming county committees to take advantage of the momentum, to run local Libertarian candidates, and to increase Libertarian enrollment.
